Finally, a weekend at home to race in front of a hometown crowd

Saturday morning was the Hill Climb. Starting at tree brewery, it wound its way to the bottom of knox and climbed to the first lookout. A painfully short effort. The women showed there strength with Alison putting in the fastest time, and Gill M in 3rd. Jess placed 7th and Gill C was 10th. On the Men’s side the times were super quick, with Owen placing 8th, less than 10 seconds off the leaders time. Jackson Buehler put in a solid time as well placing 13th

A quick lunch break followed at the Harrisons; friends, food, and ping-pong set the team up perfectly for the evening crit.

A 1 km rectangle on Tutt St and Richter st in the mission was the stage for the Evening Crit. The Women again showed their dominance,  and with a flurry of attacks Alison was away solo. With half the race remaining Alison was able to stay away to the solo victory, over 20 seconds ahead of the chasing pack. Gill M and Jess finished within the pack, 8th and 9th, and Gill C close behind.

In the Mens race it was a blistering Pace with constant attacks from the HR Block-Kona and Trek-Red Truck Teams. No breakaways were able to form, and it came down to a sprint finish, where Tim was able to cross the line in 2nd. Dan was close behind in 7th.

The Sunday morning road race was a tough hilly loop through east Kelowna, and proved to be a race of attrition. In the women’s race Alison and Gill M formed a breakaway with another rider that stuck until the end. Alison was able to sprint ahead in the final kilometer for the win, sweeping all 3 races over the weekend. Gill M came across in 3rd place. The following group contained Jess in it, who sprinted to 5th place.

The Men’s race was littered with attacks and breakaways. One Lap Evan would be in a breakaway of 10 riders. The next lap Jeff, Tim and Chris would be off the front in a group, only to get reeled back in. Midway through Tim got away with 5 riders, rolling a hard pace for 2 laps, and getting caught with 2 laps to go. From there on it was fireworks, with the pace full throttle. A select group of 20 riders were in a bunch for the finish, With Jackson and Chris finishing Top 10 in 8th and 9th.
